Pinky looks unreal!! Just put the 1000/Busa forks on it and go racing...

Thank you Blackhawk!! OEM-standard is the key here. Were those forkes OEM on the busa? No. Hayabusa OEM forks weigh how much? This rule is pretty clear as to it's intent. If one wishes to take a chance and test the water how can they plead ignorance when they get burned. 8-10lbs is alot of weight in the right place and is definately an advantage. Also think about the fact that AMA actually checked for heavy forks. They are enforcing the rules that they have laid out for all racers. Also don't forget that same grey area people attempt to play in so can tech. Who do you think would win in that match?

I think it was more trouble in rounding up multiple sets of forks, weighing each one, selecting and then adapting them to your setup than it would have been to call or email tech for clarification. Or maybe not.

Paul Gast was DQ'd last year as well....if you go down without a fight, you might as well just not show up :-)
Kent Stotz was Dq'd for not using bike power for allowing the starter (which is powered solely by the bike's power) move his bike across the starting line...

So 1989 GSXR forks are legal for use on a new 1K? 1989 ZX-10 parts areok for a new zx10?
Is is just because one manufactrer keeps a name when they upgrade (Suzuki with the busa) and another doesn't (zx-12, zx-14) that drives the rules?
Don;t get me wrong, i am not trying to hate, I just think it should be ENCOURAGED to do things like this rather than causing disqualifications.
Maybe AMA needs to prescribe a cookie cutter "Bike of Tomorrow" that all racers need to ride....(please don't get any ideas AMA, I was ...)

Re: Valdosta updates ?
Tech has made it clear in the past, "there are no gray areas."
I think people should be ENCOURAGED to call or e-mail tech to get the ok before venturing into anything they might think is a "gray area".
Your conversation with tech will be completely confidential, so no worrying about others knowing your tricks. Plus, you will know for sure if your interpretation of the rules is legal.
I'm sure this whole thing was an honest mistake, misinterpretation of the rules, issue with rule book clarity, etc. all rolled into one. A big coincidence of issues that manifested at once, which is very unfortunate.
The easiest way to correct it is for everyone to call/email tech with their questions.
And don't expect anyone from tech to chime in, they have better things to do than justify themselves to anyone but RMR.
I would strongly suggest everyone racing in a pro or pro-sportsman class to be ready for a random teardown or thorough tech inspection to be performed in each class sometime during the season. Dean is BACK, and he's gonna do a great job as he has in the past.

Re: Valdosta updates ?
OEM- Original Equipment Manufacture. It seems the rule was worded to cover all bikes in the class as per brand. Honda, Kawasaki and Suzuki all have their own forks with their own specs. OEM industry standard appears to cover each one and allows for swapping but only if the forks utilized are lighter than the OEM. Also maybe tech should have taken it a step further and had the fork disassembled!! I doubt the weight would differ by that much. But then again I haven't and don't sit around and measure forks either.

Re: Valdosta updates ?
And some day when we're all old and grey (no pun intended)...we'll look back upon this (and the rule book) and wonder how ANY make/model of OEM forks are now allowed on any bike...then remember way back when the rule was added making intercoolers illegal back when Kent was running one...now they're hanging off the sides of the bikes!

All I know is Ronnie's bike was fast last year, along with the other bikes he has built. So, I say, put the other forks back on it and let er' rip...
As I said. I dont feel Ronnie was "cheating", he wasn't filling the legs with lead, or remanufacturing stuff out of a heavier metal. It was simply a misunderstanding where he thought since the forks he was using were OEM off of another bike, that meant they were legal.
the end.

if u read my post u will see that i was replying to a question about bodywork and headlights on pro street bikes. but if u were out here racing pst and somebody found all these grey areas and they are faster than everybody, u think they should be encouraged?? so boarderline cheating is ok in your book?? just follow the rules, get a good tuner, a good rider, and go win races..... then i will give props and encouragement!
RMR has proven he can win and do it legally. so this is not a mark on his record. its minor infraction that should blow over soon
