Are you allowed to have liquid intercoolers? or just air to air coolers?

Re: My Pro Street bike
4.2.5.1.2 TURBOCHARGERS
TURBOCHARGING: Limited to one turbo with a maximum turbo inlet opening of 62.5mm. AMA Dragbike defines maximum turbo size as the maximum allowable diameter of the inlet housing at the point where the leading edge of the compressor wheel meets the inlet housing. All air entering the turbo must pass through this opening. No stepped inducer wheels permitted, the contour from the inducer to the exducer must be continuous with no steps. The leading edge of inducer wheel may not exceed 62.5mm, and must fit inside the 62.5mm area of the inlet housing. The use of restrictor plates or stepped inlet housings in an effort to limit compressors with inducers larger than 62.5mm is not acceptable.
INLET COOLING: Any type of inter-cooling permissible. Turbocharged entrants that are prohibited from the use of nitrous may not use nitrous as cryogenic cooling source.

maybe nobody wants to be like you...ever thought of that? Some people have thought of ways to achieve the same goal in a more cost effective way...Besides, the bike that I built had a liquid to air intercooler on it before intercoolers were legal and the with the little bit of dyno tuning we were able to do with it, it was working great..But I decided not to go any further with the bike and stopped messing with it...The only reason I brought this up anyway was to see how other racers or potential felt about this particular rule because to me it just doesn't make sense to not allow nos..

They could make a CO2 cryo cooler and slip it in their up-pipe. Don't see where that wouldn;t be legal. Might look a little strange going down the track blowing off CO2, bu should fit the rules. Probably be a bitch to keep the tune though.

Re: My Pro Street bike
Dwayne,
Seb's bike, my bike, and keith's bike all have coolers and all 3 are done differently. So we are not all the same, each has their own ideas.
John,
Liquid coolers are legal, but in my opinion it will just be too heavy, cause you have to carry the cooler, plus the liquid, plus all the plumbing, fittings, and lines.
I plan on running CO2 on mine to ice it down while going down the track.

that's perfectly legal right now...you just can't spray nitrous across that intercooler core because nos is not allowed to be on the bike period because it's considered to be a second power adder and it could also get into the engine some kinda way and that is not allowed right now as the rule is written..just modify this wording alittle bit and it opens up possibilities for the use of nos..

Jason, I was actually referring to only using liquid CO2 in a smallehat exchanger in the up-pipe.
I do like the idea of the CO2 cooling your air to air though. Easy to do with a nitrous solenoid and some nylon line Import car guys do it all the time. Not sure of the benefits. but easy enough to try.

Jason, I understand how it all works and I see that Seb, Keith and yourself all have a/a intercoolers and basically you are all the same..all 3 have to have air move across a core to remove heat from the charged air..what makes you 3 different from each other is the placement of your coolers..Seb has one big one..Keith has 2 small ones and you have a small one hidden behind your headlight..The point that I'm really trying to make in all of this is that those like you,Seb and Keith that want to use a/a intercoolers can do that...those like myself and Richard of RCC that wanted to use liquid/air intercoolers can do that because we all can...what about the guys that don't have any type of intercooling due to the fact that they either purchased the bike like that or the builder that were working with at the time just refuse to do any type of intercooling and was saying to the buyer "you don't need it, we are going plenty fast without it"...well times are changing fast and we all know that an intercooled engine will live a helluva lot longer and safer than a non intercooled engine--fact! Secondly, how simple would it be for guys such as Alen Daniels, Mike Slowe, RMR, Shybear, Ricky Woods etc just to name a few to put a small shot of nos on their bikes, not to make any more power but to make them run safer longer at lower boost levels..Those guys may not want to change a single thing on their current bikes but if they did want to do something they can't because of the current nos rule and dual power adder rule...the nos route would be alot cheaper than having to completely refab the whole bike to put some time of a/a or l/a intercooler on it..

I agree that nitrous should be allowed on big turbo bikes....although, those guys you listed Dwayne have won alot of races...more than they have lost. Maybe everyone should take the intercoolers OFF their bikes J/k

it has nothing to do with how many races are won or lost...Ask Mikey if he would rather run his bike at 24lbs versus 35lbs and still net the same amount of mph...I know for a fact that an intercooled engine will live longer than one without...All the races won by whoever has been at a cost to that racer and team..Gain, I don't much about this and would love for some of the more experienced racers to chime in whenever you like..other than just bs'ing I'm just

Re: My Pro Street bike
It's already been proven, it would only take 26-29 Lbs on spray to make what some are with 35+ boost alone. Nitrous helps and if it's legal people wouldn't need water injection to run it. Make it legal

well they could have one fabricated up and fit into the rules. In regards to the second part of the statement too bad. Nobody forced them to work with whom they are working with or what to put on their bike, its their money. If they wanted an intercooler and the person refused to do it then they should have gone somewhere else.
Nobodies fault but their own. The rules are set and do not need to be changed. You want to drop your intake temps then put a intercooler that is legal on your bike.
Once again..my phone number is 334-741-7100 :)
